| Rating: 4 Swords Michael Crystal Ordonez www.lulu.com/crystalordonez Horror/Contemporary Gay 2006 39 pp. 4 Swords Rated XGC for Extreme Graphic Violence and Sexuality Michael and its sequel Michael e Michael invent their own category for Horror fiction. These linked novellas cover some of the subjects the majority prefer to sweep under the rug and to hide behind the sofa cushions. Michael focuses on a child molester, a skilled assassin—who incidentally happens to be—a ghost. Like other pedophiles, Michael the ghost doesn’t have answers for his predilection for young Michael Cimino. The attraction exists, and being the sociopathic ghost he is, he acts on it, for ten years. Eventually, as does all life, the cycle reverts, and Ghost Michael becomes Victim Michael’s saviour. Not for the faint of heart or delicate of constitution, Michael is definitely a must-read story for its examination of a very real social institution: child molestation and pedophilia. Equally important in the story is the institution of the mother who resists the truth, even when that denial costs her life. Crystal Ordonez has an active and fertile imagination that is not afraid to follow the underground twists of the human psyche to the inevitable ugly conclusion.
