Three Swords

In a very ugly and unappealing futuristic America, soldiers periodically cull new recruits from the decimated population left after the
most recent war. Each new body for cannon fodder is subjected to a complete memory wash, then retrained to be an efficient killer. Such is
Joah, who threw himself into the fray rather than let his love Tobin be culled.

For some unaccountable reason, Joah has retained the knowledge of his name, if not anything else about his identity. Five years after
his capture, he becomes the first soldier to escape the compound. Shot in the leg, he can only run so far; and the voice in his head
emanating from the chip implant will ensure he dies if he reaches too far into safety.

When he stumbles upon a small farmhold, he is amazed to find that the three individuals living there seem to know him. More
astonishingly, he has found the farm from which he came, and the man whose heart holds only love for him even after five years without
hope of his return.

          J. M. Snyder has a well-deserved reputation for writing stories of heartwarming romance and true abiding love in the midst of
horrendous societal changes. Such is the case with Persistence of Memory. I have seldom seen a story that so clearly elucidated the
perseverance of the heart.
