Brance worries constantly about finding an isolated plot of land where he can build a cabin and keep his lover safe and happy. But time has a way of sneaking up on lovers; fall is at hand and winter won’t be far behind this close to the Appalachian foothills. Then additional danger comes calling in the form of three trapper/hunters. Two can be overcome, perhaps; but the third is a sly, cunning, and sadistic subhuman who discovers the men’s shapeshifting secret and determines to capture Caleb alive, to do double duty as a freak show candidate AND for sale to the highest bidders. He isn’t expecting the power of a bobcat protecting his mate. Beneath A Yankee Sky brings us further adventures in the lives of these two realistic characters, whose love and lust often overwhelms even their undesired shapeshifting compulsions. Two very different individuals, as author J. M. Snyder illustrates, Brance and Caleb nonetheless mesh as two halves of one soul.
